Oh my, I was so looking forward to enjoying raspberries from my new raspberry plants I recently planted. I watch them flower, then the little berries slowly turn pink AND THEN they are GONE! Gee you would think the birds would at least share a few with me. I just absolutely love big red raspberries, I sure hope the birds will start sharing soon.

I added a link to sites list and blogroll list here on the right. I thought some may be interested in checking out them out moms and dads. The site and blog is “National Partnership For Women & Families”, and is a non-profit, non-partisan advocacy group dedicated to promoting fairness in the workplace, access to quality health care and policies that help women create a balance between work and family responsibilities.

Wow, I just ran across this video again for the second time this year, and now see that a book has been written, also. I found this blog link on another site I was visiting and wow what a story! You just have to take a look and read this for yoursel, and you may want to share it with others, too.

The vegetable garden is doing well, many of our seeds are spouting, I’m just thrilled! It has been a very dry spring with very little rain, so I have been watering daily…which is time consuming, but can also be a very tranquil time. The birds really enjoy it when I water the lawn and garden, which reminds me we still need to find a birdbath for the birds, and  I am sure the squirrels would make good use of it, also. Still adding flowers and flower seeds to the flower gardens, and I must say they are coming along quite well, too.

Well, we did it! The vegetable garden is in, now it is the “3 W’s”water, weed and wait to see if all that hard work pays off. I found a great buy on raspberry plants, so I bought ten; nine to plant and one to give a friend. Yes, I just absolutely love raspberries and can’t wait for a large harvest next year. I can already smell fresh baked raspberry pie!

I received this email today and thought I would share it here. I do not know who the author is, but I am pretty sure it is a mother.

MOTHERS

Real Mothers don’t eat quiche;
They don’t have time to make it.

Real Mothers know that their kitchen utensils
Are probably in the sandbox.

Real Mothers often have sticky floors,
Filthy ovens and happy kids.

Real Mothers know that dried play dough
Doesn’t come out of carpets..

Real Mothers don’t want to know what
The vacuum just sucked up.

Real Mothers sometimes ask ‘Why me?’
And get their answer when a little
Voice says, ‘Because I love you best.’

Real Mothers know that a child’s growth
Is not measured by height or years or grade….

It is marked by the progression of Mommy to Mom to Mother…

The Images of Mother

4 YEARS OF AGE - My Mommy can do anything!

8 YEARS OF AGE - My Mom knows a lot! A whole lot!

12 YEARS OF AGE - My Mother doesn’t really know quite everything.

14 YEARS OF AGE - Naturally, Mother doesn’t know that, either.

16 YEARS OF AGE - Mother? She’s hopelessly old-fashioned.

18 YEARS OF AGE - That old woman? She’s way out of date!

25 YEARS OF AGE - Well, she might know a little bit about it!

35 YEARS OF AGE - Before we decide, let’s get Mom’s opinion.

45 YEARS OF AGE - Wonder what Mom would have thought about it?

65 YEARS OF AGE - Wish I could talk it over with Mom.

The beauty of a woman is not in the clothes she wears, the figure she carries, or the way she combs her hair.

The beauty of a woman must be seen from in her eyes,
Because that is the doorway to her heart,

The place where love resides.

The beauty of a woman is not in a facial mole,

But
true beauty in a woman is reflected in her soul.
It is the caring that she lovingly gives, the passion that she
Shows, and the beauty of a woman with passing years only grows!

Well, it is Mothers Day again, “Happy Mothers Day” to all you mothers out there! My girls fixed me a mothers day breakfast and I opened my wonderful gifts first thing this morning. Well, it was first thing in the morning to me…they let me sleep in a bit, nice. Then I called my mother to wish her a happy mothers day, and we talked for a bit. She was remembering her mother and when she was a young girl and all the chores her mother had her and her siblings do on the weekends. My mom said her mother always had things for the four of them to do to keep them busy, but she never really new what her mother was doing while they were all doing their chores. Then it was back to flowers and plants, and digging in the yard to make room for green beans and green peas. I really wanted to plant, but I checked the weather and it shows that we are to get down to about 34F tonight…a bit cold yet. After tonight I might be able to plant them in the ground and have them be alright. I just don’t want to do another last year when I got in a hurry and had to dig the plants back up and take in the house to try and save them, most where saved, but not all. Then it was pizza and a movie, yumm…the movie was one the youngest picked out, Marly and Me. It really was a cute movie and realy pointed out some good reasons not to get a large dog.

Wow, what a beautiful morning it was this morning. The sun was out shining warm and bright it was a no jacket required kind of morning, and I was on a mission…buy flowers, lots of flowers. I picked up a friend then we were off to the local college for their annual student plant sale. I first went to find the vegetable plants, this was first priority. I found and bought vegetable plants…tomato, cucumber, cantaloupe, green pepper and yellow pepper. Next it was time to take a look at the flower plants, yes I found several of them…maybe too many for my pocket, but hey it helps the local college and they really where good prices. I found a few perennials for several areas of the yard and a few annuals for my walkway. I decided on a color scheme right then and there, flowers can be so inspiring that I could have found a spot in my yard for all of them.

But now I have to wait about another week till the last frost of the season, so I can plant, plant, plant all these very lovely flowers and vegetable plants in the ground of their new home.

Happy planting,

Tree

At last the weather has been very nice and I have been in the yard preparing the ground for flower and vegetable gardens. At first I looked around and was not sure where to start, there is soooo much to be done, and of course I want it all done quickly. My back is telling me to slow down, but I keep getting more ideas as to where to put another garden.  Which means I need to dig some more for so I can plant. hhmmm…I think I will plant the green beans and peas over there and make some sort of trellis for them to climb…some how. Yep, more digging!

I have been following the H1N1 Flu on the WHO site and the CDC site and also found a good globel map on the WHO site. These sites are updated every day, and the numbers are adding up quickly, but it is said that the main reason for the jump in numbers is because of the time it has taken to proscess all the samples already at the lab. It seems the new daily numbers can be misleading and it is not spreading as it was first feared it might. There are 20 countries with a total of 985 confirmed cases of the Influenza A H1N1 virus, including the 30 states in the US with 226 confirmed cases.

The virus with many names is making it’s way around the world and causing much alarm and receiving much attention. First called swine influenza (Flu) and now referred to as swine influenza A H1N1 virus.

The CDC say’s they will provide updated guidance and new information as it becomes available at this link   CDC

You can also find world info at  World Health Organization (WHO)

As of April 29, 2009 the CDC report shows that ten U.S. states have confirmed cases of A H1N1 virus, a total of 91 cases and 1 death.

WHO reports that seven counties have confirmed cases with no deaths and Mexico confirmed case of 26 including seven deaths.

The severity of the Swine Flu situation seems to grow with every report I hear or read the last couple of days. It seems it started in Mexico and has quickly spread to the USA, Canada, UK and now a case in Spain has been reported.

I first heard about it while I was cooking pork chops for our dinner. The kids questioned me if we could get Swine Flu from eating the pork chops (a good question), but NO you cannot get Swine Flu by eating Pork. You basically get it the same way you get other flu bugs…from person to person coughing and sneezing. So, they say to cover your mouth and wash your hands as often as possible. Also, stay home if you are sick and postpone travel if possible.

I know this is a brief remark and will be back with more on this topic as time allows.

Stay Well,

Tree

We were sitting around the dinner table the other evening talking about fruit and fruit trees. Someone said something about a banana tree and I remembered that I read that they are not really trees at all. Wow, that was news! You can read about it here:   Banana Tree

At last the weather outside is not so frightful, it is oh so nice. Spent most of the weekend outside actually looking for things to do so I could stay outside and enjoy the sun in warmth. I trimmed a few trees, stirred up the compost pile, and even did a little painting on the outside of the house. I even lit up the Bar-B-Que grill. My back may be a bit sore, but it sure felt good to be outside after what seemed to be a winter that would not stop. I can not wait till I can begin the vegetable garden, fresh veggies sound so good.
